Fed: Former diplomat attacks Gillard
A former Australian diplomat to Asia says Labor's immigration spokeswoman JULIA GILLARDis an embarrassment who has failed to produce a decent policy.
BRUCE HAIGH, a former diplomat in Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Indonesia andSouth Africa, is also the convenor of this weekend's Rural Australians for Refugees conferencein the NSW town of Mudgee.
Mr HAIGH says Ms GiLLARD had been scheduled to speak at the conference but to his reliefshe had pulled out at the last minute.
He says the conference would not have wanted to hear from Ms GILLARD about the newALP immigration policy because it has been shaped by the government's framework on asylumseekers.
Ms GILLARD released Labor's immigration policy this week, which keeps mandatory detentionfor asylum seekers and maintains the exclusion of Christmas Island from Australia's migrationzone.
