ALBANY -- Fourteen members of the 16-member state Board of Regents released a public letter Friday to one of their critics, state Sen. Kenneth LaValle. The Regents said they were eager for better relations with the state Legislature and tried to refute some of the testimony of a dissident Regent at a public hearing this week.
LaValle, a Long Island Republican, had called on state Education Commissioner Thomas Sobol to resign.
