Govt rorts own guidelines on heritage =2 Canberra
The government has previously defended the number of
projects in marginal coalition seats, pointing out that before
the last election a large majority of rural and regional
electorates were held by coalition MPs.
Mr Beazley said the opposition would pursue the matter
further.
"There are obviously several actions open to us but I would
have thought the parliament is the place for accountability
and the prime minister will be accountable."
And he warned the government should have learned from the
infamous Ros Kelly whiteboard affair, with the one-time Labor
sports minister standing down in 1994 amid a furore over the
distribution of sports grants.
"They said of course that they had learned everything from
that, this was going to be dispassionate, this was going to be
arms length, what baloney," he said.
"They won't even tell you which projects have been
overthrown."
